Well, meet Peter Solis Nery—the multi-talented literary genius from Iloilo who turned words into powerful works of art.Peter Solis Nery was born on September 12, 1969 in Dumangas, Iloilo. He grew up with a passion for words, storytelling, and creativity, which later led him to become not just a writer, but also a poet, filmmaker, actor, and even a nurse. He’s truly a man of many talents!

Throughout his career, Peter Solis Nery has produced a wide range of literary works—short stories, poems, plays, and even children’s books. He’s most famous for his writings in Hiligaynon, making him a champion of regional literature in the Philippines. His works often explore themes of love, identity, sexuality, and the human condition, all while highlighting the beauty of his native language and culture.

Some of his notable works include:

“The Fireflies” – a Palanca-winning short story that explores innocence, memory, and childhood.

“Funny, Sad, and Dangerous” – a collection of short stories that mix humor with life’s deeper truths.

“A Loneliness Greater than Love” – a collection of poems that dives into themes of longing and identity.

“The Passion of Jovita Fuentes” – a biography of the first female National Artist for Music, showing his ability to blend history and literature.

What I find inspiring about Peter Solis Nery is his courage to write about things that many people avoid. He’s not afraid to explore deep truths about love, life, and identity—even if they’re controversial. For me, that shows how literature isn’t just about telling stories, but about speaking honestly and fearlessly. I also admire how he elevates Hiligaynon literature. At a time when regional languages can sometimes be forgotten, he proudly brings his roots to the spotlight. It’s a reminder that our culture and identity are worth celebrating, and that every language has its own beauty. 

 To this day, Peter Solis Nery continues to inspire as a writer and cultural advocate, proving that literature can be both powerful and personal. His contributions remind us that stories—whether in English, Filipino, or Hiligaynon—are treasures that shape and preserve our identity as Filipinos.
